We have been asked quite a lot recently this question, so we decided to list the options for this process below.
If you want to back up your waypoints using the Lowrance app on your phone, here’s how you can do it effectively—using both the app itself and your Lowrance device.
Option 1: Use GPX Export from the Lowrance App
The Lowrance App (iOS or Android) supports GPX import and export of waypoints, routes, and tracks—this is one of the standout features even on the free tier. To back up your data:
- Open the Lowrance App.
- Look for the GPX export or share/export function in the menu (possibly under “Manage” or “Places”).
- Export your waypoints, routes, or tracks to a GPX file.
- Save the file to your phone’s storage or share it via email, cloud storage, etc.
This method gives you a standalone file you can store safely or transfer.
Option 2: Sync with Your Lowrance Device and Back Up to SD Card or Computer
Another way to ensure your waypoints are saved:
- Sync your phone with your Lowrance fishfinder/chartplotter using the Lowrance App—this can transfer data between the app and device
- On your Lowrance unit, you can save waypoints, routes, and trails to an SD card, or connect it to your computer to copy files as backup
- Store those saved files in a separate folder or back them up to your PC or cloud storage for extra safety.
Handy Tip: Recover Deleted Waypoints in the App
If you accidentally delete waypoints and want to recover them:
- In the app, go to Places → Manage → Filters.
- Scroll down and select “Deleted only.”
- You’ll see your removed waypoints—tap the three-dot menu (...) next to one and choose Restore to recover it
Some users have noted that syncing with the device can either pull in these deleted waypoints again or permanently remove them, so it's wise to check this feature frequently

Final Recommendations
- For quick on-the-go backup, use the GPX export from the app.
- For extra redundancy, perform a sync with your unit and save backups via SD card or direct computer transfer.
- Regularly check the “Deleted only” filter in the app to restore anything lost.
